Why I think it’s awesome to be
in Hillary house and have Sir
Edmund Hillary as our leader.
I think it is cool to have Sir
Edmund Hillary as our house
leader because he made 2 world
records. The first one was that
he and Tensing Norgay were
the first people ever to climb
the tallest mountain ever Mount
Everest in Nepal.
The Second one was that he was
the first to drive a vehicle,
(tractor) to the South Pole. If
you look very closely down the
bottom of the $5 note you can
see the old Massey Ferguson
tractor he drove to the South
Pole.
So Sir Edmund Hillary is
definitely an icon to New
Zealand. However, he passed
away in 2008 at the age of 88.
But he will still be remembered
by everyone.J
Sir Edmund Hillary was also
very famous in another place in
the world, where he worked
with the Sherpas. Sir Edmund
and the Himalayan Trust
together planned a lot of
buildings for the Sherpas and
their children. Their materials
were donated from around the
world. The buildings included
schools, clinics and an airfield.
Therefore I am very proud to be
in Hillary house since it feels
like we are being covered in Sir
Edmund Hillary’s success and
he is expecting us to do
something good for ourselves
and others in life. Hillary house
is full of awesome people who
aim high like ME!
